College 'Welcome Morning'

Soo... I got back from my 'Welcome Day' at college earlier. It was pretty cool. I got my timetable, and I think I like it. I don't start untill 11 on a monday which is good because NaNo starts on a monday this year, so I can stay up for a midnight start because I don't have to get up too early. I have an even later start on Tuesday, at 1pm. But for the rest of the week I start at 9 and finish at a different time every day, depending on how many classes I have that day, and breaks between classes. On Friday I have a four hour break on Friday. I think I'm going to come home and the go back again instead of staying there the whole time, because I will have nothing to do. Especially tomorrow, which happens to be both Friday and my official first day. I probably won't know anyone so won't have anything to do.

I also have no days where I start at the same time as my brother, who has a car, so I'll have to get the bus every day. Today I met a few people I knew at the bus stop, which was cool. Two completely full buses went past before we could get on one. Apparently this happens a lot and my brother says you need to walk up to the previous bus stop to actually be able to get on the bus. Fun fun fun.

My day today went pretty well. There was no one I knew in my tutor group, which I think was probably a good thing because (and this happened before on a 'taster day' I went to) if there was someone I knew I would have just stuck with them and not get to know new people. Our teacher told us to get into groups with people who were doing similar subjects to us, and I was with 2 peope who seemed pretty cool. Then we went around the college in our little group, to see if we could find all of the places on a list our teacher gave us. xD It was fun.

Then we went to the "Enrichment Fair" and I didn't sign up for any enrichment courses.

And then I went home :)

Tomorrow I have English Language, which I can't wait for, I think it's gonna be so good. It better live up to my expectations!! It's different to English at school. I think it's supposed to be about stuff like how kids learn to talk, and stuff like that. It's gonna be really interesting. And then I have a 4 hour break before I have Chemistry. I think I'm gonna go home for that. Later in the year I'll probably use it for homework/revision but right now I don't have much of that to do.

So that's all I have to say about how today went. It was good. I hope tomorrow is good too!!

Au Reviour!!

Tuesday 14 September 2010

Oh, hi! I'm going to college in 2 days...

Oh hi, I didn't see you there.

I haven't made a blog post since late July, I think. It's now mid-september. But I will not give up on this blog! I've got so many (well, maybe about 5? I don't really know. It's probably only about 2 actually...) abandoned blogs, and I'm always thinking about how cool it would be to have a blog but never actually doing anything about it... so I will continue to write in this blog even if I take the occasional month-and-a-half long break.

Sooo, I start college on Thursday. O_O I think I might blog about my experiences... even though my current followers are from JulNo so probably don't care... xD Well, you might care.. I dunno. I need to somehow get more readers of my blog., though. I think I've only got 2 at the moment. I might post some links on TheStudentRoom but there's very few decent people there... the majority are either trolls who just want attention, or kids who are so far up their own ass... but you get the occasional normal person. So if you're reading this and are from TSR, don't get offended. :P

Sooo, in 2 days I am going to a Sixth Form College in order to do my A Levels. If you're interested, the subjects I'm taking are Maths, Biology, Chemistry and English Language. Funnily enough, Maths, Science and Engliah were the compulsary subjects at school and I bet most people are glad to be rid of at least one of them. xD Yet I'm carrying on with all 3. :P My secondary school doesn't have it's own 6th Form like some schools do, so everyone from my school has to go to a seperate college if they want to continue with their education. There are a lot of people from my school going to the same college as me, but I think only a handful will be doing the same courses as me and that doesn;t even necisarily mean they'll be in the same class as me. And there'll be lots of people I don't know. Now, I'm not the most talkative person. I'm not good at making conversation with people. I honestly don't even remember how I managed to become friends with the people I was friends with in school. So, um, I'm not really sure how it's gonna go for the first few days. Of course I'm going to make extra effort to get to know people because even though I'm shy, I do like making new friends, it's sort of exciting. It's just that I'm not very good at it. :P Buuut hopefully there'll be lots of people like me, who are kinda nerds, and have no friends yet either. So I can be friends with them and it'll all be gooood. ^__^

Thursday isn't really our official 'first day.' It's just this welcome day thing, and I think we just go in and get our timetables and stuff. Hopefully I'll meet some new people on that day... and then classes and everything starts on Friday.

Well, I think that's all for now... I'll tell you how everything goes :D

If you don't like it, don't read/listen to/watch/look at/do it! - A rant.

You know what annoys me? When someone complains about something, and somebody else replies "Well if you don't like it, don't read/listen to/watch/look at/do it!" as if it's really that simple. This has become the most common comeback to whenever someone says they don't like something, and it really irritates me.

Example. You may have heard the song 'Airplanes' (I don't actually remember who it's by, but people have constantly been putting the lyrics to it as their status on Facebook for the last few weeks.) I hadn't actually heard the song, but I'd seen the lyrics to it on loads of people's Facebooks, so I decided to look it up to see what the fuss was all about. I found it on YouTube, and listened to it. I didn't like it, so I posted a comment on the video saying something like "I don't like this song. Why are so many people putting it as their facebook status?" and almost instantly I was flooded with responses saying "if u dnt lyk it, dnt listen 2 it!!!!!!" and similar things. Thanks, I'd never thought of that. I'm probably never going to listen to the song again, but they don't seem to realise that. and the only reason I listened to it in the first place was to see if I liked it or not. I didn't know I wasn't going to like it which is why I listened to it.

There was another time that I saw this happen recently. I was looking at some of my friends photos on Facebook, and I came across a picture of her where her boyfriend had left a, um, slightly inappropriate comment. And this other girl commented "Ew! i didn't need to read that!" To which he replied "well if you don't like it, don't read it." Um, SHE DIDN'T KNOW SHE WASN'T GOING TO LIKE IT BEFORE SHE READ IT. And she can't exactly un-read it now.

Ugh. I dunno, it just annoys me.

In other news, I have accumulated a ton of books that I haven't read yet, but I really don't know what one to read next. :/ I'm kind of in the mood to re-read A Series of Unfortunate Events, but I've got loads of books I haven't read yet so I don't want to waste time reading books I've already read. This is the biggest dillema I've ever had to face in, like, my whole life. Some of them are ones I bought a while ago because I wanted to read them but I haven't got around to it yet, but now I've gotten so used to seeing them on the shelf that they just seem boring and familiar already even though I haven't read them. :( My life is so interesting. Sigh.

The world is quiet here...

YouTube Spam

Recently on my YouTube account I've been getting a lot of messages in my inbox that say something like "hey, I was checking out your profile and I really loved that video you made. I can help you get more subscribers! Just click this link!"

Sounds great, right? Except for the fact that I have never posted a video on YouTube, so they obviously can't 'love my video.' I've gotten a shocking amount of this spam and it really makes me laugh, because they obviously just indiscriminately send it to every single person on YouTube. At the bottom of the message is says 'this message was sent to...' and there's always a list of the people whose usernames are next to mine alphabetically. So I assume these people just go through a list of users and send it to everyone. So I guess that means they probably also send it to people who are already uber-sucessful on YouTube. I dunno, the thought of that just makes me laugh... Like, the Vlogbrothers or someone getting messages telling them "I can help you get your videos featured!" Ha, I don't think they need your help with that.

Yeah, this just makes me laugh so I thought I'd share. There's nothing else I really have to talk about at the moment, so... See you later!

PS. Woo, I now have 3 followers! Well, technically 2 because I think 2 of them are the same person with a new account... ¬_¬
But I still feel special.

Mmmm Lemony Goodness...

I'VE GOT THE SAME BIRTHDAY AS LEMONY SNICKET. HELL YEAH.
Well, actually I've got the same birthday as Daniel Handler, who is the man that used the pen name Lemony Snicket. But that sounds less cool.

The reason I discovered this was because I'm reading A Series of Unfortunate Events. I got a box set of the first 10 books for Christmas in 2005, and read them all shortly after that. But it wasn't until 4-and-a-half years later (A.K.A. Now.) that I finally got around to purchasing the last 3 books in the series. I just read the 11th book in almost one sitting. It would have been one sitting if I didn't have to have dinner when I was half way through it. :( But yeah, I've just finished the 11th book and will move onto the 12th after writing this.

If you haven't heard of tvtropes.org, I am about to inflict something life ruining onto you. Because, as it says somewhere on the website itself, TV Tropes will ruin your life. People, including myself, get obsessed with it. But mentioning this particular website is essential in recounting my tale of how I found out about Lemony Snicket having the same birthday as me. Whenever I get into a new TV show or book series or something, I always look at the TV Tropes page for it, because... I'm obsessed with TV Tropes. So I was doing that just now. And right at the top of the Series of Unfortunate Events page, it says that Lemony Snicket is the pen name for a dude called Daniel Handler. I did not know this previously. I immediately went "NOOOO!" (inside my head, of course) because, although I already kinda knew that Lemony Snicket was just a pen name of some other guy, finding out what his real name was, and finding out it was something boring like Daniel (no offence Daniels of the world), kind of shattered my last bits of hope that maybe he actually was a real person.
I'm not really sure why it would matter if he were a real person or not because I'm probably never going to meet him anyway. But it would have been cool. (And anyway, he still is real, I guess, but just with a less cool name.)
But for some reason this led me to google Daniel Handler. And BAM, on his Wikipedia page, I see "born February 28, 1970."
FEBRUARY 28, BITCH!
The coolest Birthday in the world, amirite? Except for the fact that he's... *gets calculator out*... 24 years older than me (damn, it shouldn't be that hard to subtract 70 from 94. I only left school a few weeks ago.) But whatever. So even though his name isn't Lemony Snicket in real life, I like this guy again, because we share a great birthday.
And then I had to inform someone of this so I started writing this blog post, and I still haven't read the Series of Unfortunate Events TV Tropes page.

I doubt anyone cares enough about this little tale to read all of it, but if you have... you have no life. ;D I joke, of course. You're awesome and I like you. BE MY FRIEND. O_O

Because I feel like I should always end these with my name-

Faye.

P.S I'm going to see Toy Story 3 tomorrow! I'm excited! :D

The iPhone 4, and stuff.

Woah, I haven't done a blog post in like 2 days. I don't want to end up forgetting about this blog so I think I should update it frequently so it doesn't end up rotting in given-up-blog land. Even though I don't have anything in particular to blog about today...

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I won JulNo!! Yeah, I reached 50k :) Although I haven't quite finished my epilogue yet. I only started writing the epilogue because I finished the story without getting to 50k... but now I've got to 50k and haven't finished the epilgue, which kinda means I haven't finished the story. It's all just a vicious circle. My epilogue so far has mainly consisted of my main character's dad and uncle playing Guitar Hero. Yeah, don't ask... ¬_¬ (basically my JulNo is a sequel to something I wrote ages ago, where they were main characters. And I'm still kinda fangirling over them... But I'm not really sure where Guitar Hero comes into all this.)

I've started putting a link to this on my signature on gurl.com now, so if you're reading this, you're either from JulNo or Gurl. Or some other weird stalker. So, hello!!

Ooh, I've thought of something I want to blog about. The new iPhone 4. I have an iPhone 3G, which I got for Christmas 2008. So I've had it for about a year and a half now. I've never had any major problems with it, and it still works fine and does everything I want it to do, so I don't see why I should get rid of it. But I have a friend who got an iPhone not long after I did, and he's just bought an iPhone 4. I think he did have some problems with his iPhone 3G a while ago, but earlier on Facebook he was saying "I'm having promblems with my iPhone 4 already." For the last couple of days on the news, people have been talking about the iPhone 4 having signal problems and stuff. And I'm thinking, why buy one if you already know there's going to be problems with it? Are people so obsessed with having the latest new gadget that they don't care? I may sound a bit hypocritical because some people might think having any kind of iPhone means you're obsessed with having the latest gadgets. And I admit that I did fall victim to the charms of the iPhone... but that was because I was shopping for a new phone anyway, because I'd had a really shit Moterola Razr for goodness knows how long. I didn't buy one just for the sake of having it. I got one because I was already looking for a new phone and decided I wanted an iPhone. Not like the people who queued up for hours to buy an iPhone 4 when they presumably had a previous iPhone that still worked fine. Yeah, I like having new gadgets but I won't buy them when I've already got one that works. I've bought one of each type of Nintendo DS that has been released. But I got a DS Lite because my first DS got stolen. And I got a DSi because my DS Lite was starting to break. (And partially because I needed a second DS to trade between my Pokemon games... ¬_¬)

Sorry if I sound like I'm saying I'm better than people who buy stuff like the iPhone 4... I don't mean to. But it does annoy me when people waste their money on things when they've already got a perfectly good one that just happens to be an older version. But then, who am I to say how they waste their money.

See y'all later.

Ok, I promise I'll never try and say "y'all" again.

Why Life is Not Like a Box of Chocolates.

I have a problem with that age old philosophy "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get." I don't know what boxes of chocolates were like back in the olden days when whoever first said this was alive, but most of the ones I've ever seen have had something, either on the back of the box or on a little card inside, that tells you what each different chocolate is. That's how you know to avoid the coffee or Turkish Delight ones because no one likes them except for my dad.
I guess there's boxes of chocolate out there that don't have any way of telling what's in each one. And of course there are people who take ones randomly without checking what they are first. But I am not one of those people.

Turns out that quote is originally from Forrest Gump, which I have seen but had forgotten about that bit. That makes sense, I s'pose. He wasn't the sharpest crayon in the box, was he? (Funnily enough, it was my use of that phrase that originally got me the nickname 'Fayola' which is now my JulNo username. Because my friend misheard it and thought I'd just said that I like crayons... So, yeah. That was a fun, pointless story.)
Actually, I haven't seen Forrest Gump in ages, and I don't even know if I watched all of it the first time, because I saw it at school when we were learning about the Vietnam War in History. I can't even remember much about it.

I'm sure you're dying to hear about my JulNo progress now. I have finished my novel but it is only 47k. So I've thought of a nice little epilogue that should be about 3k. And it's set during Christmas, so I've got an excuse to listen to Christmas music in the middle of July. I have an IRL friend who would kill me if she found out, because I used to annoy her by obsessing over Christmas when it was months away. :P It's only 157 days away!
Actually, I'm glad I decided to do an epilogue because it shows what the character's lives are like about 6 months after the main events of the novel, and it ties up some loose ends. Hooray! I won't be relying on DVD bonus features to answer questions that weren't answered in the final episode, NOT NAMING ANY NAMES LOST. *ahem.*

Merry Christmas Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve EveEve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve Eve! I Almost Forgot to Give This a Title...

The sun is reflecting off my neighbor's window, RIGHT into my eyes. I'm blind. This is irritating. This has never happened before, but today their window is opened at such an angle that the sun reflects directly in my direction. Lovely.
One of my other neighbors has an incredibly annoying dog. This probably won't be the last time I talk about it in this blog. They keep it in this little fenced off part of thier garden, and don't seem to let it in the house, ever. So obviously, it's starved for attention, which means it barks. A lot.
No, wait. It doesn't bark. It's part chihuahua. It actually squeaks. I'm not even exaggerating.
I could rant on and on about how annoying these particular neighbors are. It's not just their dog. But I don't think you want to hear about that.

I've nearly finished my JulNo, with 10 days to spare. I've got almost 4,000 words left to write. I've been saying on the JulNo forums that I'm not sure if I'll make it to 50k because I only have one scene left to do, so it might not be long enough. But now I've got an idea for an epilogue that I can do. Even if I do make it to 50k, I might write the epilogue anyway. So it's all good. :D My main character is currently depressed because he thinks another character is dead. I can't wait to get on to the next scene, where we find out he's actually alive. It's gonna be fun. :D

Hmm, this blog post is quite a bit shorter than my previous ones...

Ohhh, there the dog goes again. SHUT UP.

Anyway. See you later!

The Hunger Games, My JulNo, and Fanfiction

So, I just finished reading Catching Fire, the second book in The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. It. Was. Bloody. Fantastic. I loved it. If you haven't read The Hunger Games, READ IT NOW. I recommend it to everyone. Well, unless you're a little kid... I'd say it's be alright for people over the age of... 14? I dunnp. But it's SO GOOD! If you're a teenager or adult, I recommend it.

A few weeks ago my mum asked me if she could borrow my Twilight books over the summer. I think I'll suggest The Hunger Games to her instead. I used to like Twilight but quickly realised it was stupid. My mum probably won't like the sound of The Hunger Games, because kids being forced to kill each other on a reality TV show isn't really her cup of tea. But it's not as bad as it sounds from that description, I promise.

Now I can't wait for Mockingjay (the last in the trilogy) to be released. I've pre-ordered it already. It comes out on the 24th of August (unless I'm mistaken.) And I have no idea how I'm going to wait that long! This time last week, I didn't even know what The Hunger Games was about, and now I'm thoroughly obsessed. I think it's my new favourite book. Well, I don't really know what my favourite book was before this. So now I have a favourite book. :)

I'm not sure what I'm going to read now. I've got a few other books on my shelf that I haven't read. I think I'm either going to read Paper Towns by John Green, or Wicked by Gregory Maguire. And then I need to read the last 3 Series of Unfortunate Events books, because I read the first ten of them years ago, but never got around to buying the last three until now. I have a very bad habit of not finishing serieses and trilogies. And I also have a bad habit of buying books when I've already got ones at home that I haven't read. And I buy too many books at a time. The other day, I went out to buy Catching Fire, and I came home with 5 books. It wasn't my fault that I suddenly found books that I've wanted for ages... ¬_¬

Anyway, enough about books written by other people. Let's talk about my JulNoWriMo novel! I've got about 40k at the moment, and I'm coming to the end of the story. It's exciting stuff, but I don't know if I'll be able to finish it in 10,000 words. If it doesn't quite make it, I've got an epilogue planned. I really don't know how many words the final scene will be. I'll try and drag it out so it fills the 10k, but I've got a feeling it will be less than that.

The good news, though, is that this will be the first novel that I've ever finished. I've done NaNoWriMo a few times before and won it twice, but although I've gotten 50k, I've never finished any of the books, and I often got bored halfway through and switched to a different story. I don't know what it is about this one that's made me stick with it right until the end. It's kind of a sequel to a story I wrote a long long time ago, so the characters have all been in my head a while and I've grown to know them well and love them. But up until a few days before July, I didn't really have a plot to go with them, and I've been planning it as I go along. I suppose it's a combination of characters I already know and love, combined with a new and exciting plot. When you put it like that, it sounds a bit like fanfiction, actually.

Which brings me to another point, which I was thinking about the other day. This is purely hypothetical, but do you think it would be weird for a published author to write fanfiction about their own story? Well, when I put it like that I know it sounds weird... but what I mean is, if you wrote a novel, and lets say you thought the villain and main character would actually make a good couple under different circumstances, but it's not something that could ever happen in the novel. You could still write it, and put it on a fanfiction site under a fake username. You know, just for fun.

I don't know. It's not something I would actually do (partially because I'm unlikely to become a published author. xD) but it was just something my deranged mind was thinking about the other day. I probably sound crazy now. Please ignore me if this is the case.

Anyway, I think that's all for now! Toodle-oo!

Faye

So, Hi and Stuff.

Hello there people of the internet!
My name is Faye and this is my blog. Isn't it lovely.
I've tried starting blogs before but never got around to updating them much. But I like the idea of having a blog and want to start one again. So this is it.
I'll probably be using this to update my progress on various WriMos I do. (Mainly NaNoWriMo, but I'm currently in the middle of JulNoWriMo.)

For the curious, here's a list of ny NaNo history.
NaNo '06- Phoenix. Surprisingly, I won, although I think I changed to a different story half way through.
NaNo '07- Unnamed SciFi Thing. I failed badly.
NaNo '08- My Sweet Revenge. Another win, but I never actually finished the novel.
NaNo '09- Fantasies Come True. Fail. I only did a few thousand words and the story wasn't going anywhere.
JulNo '10- The World Is Mine. On track to win and finish the novel, which will be a first.

My username on the official NaNoWriMo forums is Fairytalehero. On the JulNo forums I'm Fayola, which is a nickname I have IRL... it's kinda a long story.

As you may have guessed, I like reading and writing. I might want to be an author... but I haven't really decided what I'm doing with my future yet. You can expect this blog to be about stuff I write and books I read, as well as random stuff I decided to share with my lovely readers (which I'll probably have very few of. :P)

If you would like to know more about me, I am 16 years old and I live in England. That means I've just finished Year 11 of school. For some people that might mean going on to 6th Form at the school you already go to, but my school doesn't have a 6th Form so I'll be going to a College. With new people who I don't know yet. Scary stuff. I'll keep you updated on how that goes. I'm also trying to get a job at the moment. I've printed off about 30 CVs but haven't given any out yet. I've applied online for a couple of places. I was immediately rejected by one, and am still waiting a reply from the other. They said they would take up to 7 working days to get back to me, and so far it's been 6 working days. I'd rather know sooner if they're just going to say no.
If all else fails, I'm going to try and get a job at McDonalds, where my brother works. Sigh.

I'm a bit of a nerd and I enjoy books, video games, and TV. My absolute fabourite TV show in the whole world is LOST. So if you're a LOST fan, feel free to talk to me about it. :D I don't know many people IRL who watch it except for my parents and one girl who doesn't really seem as obsessive as I am. I won't bore you with an exhaustive list of all the TV shows I like, but I might talk about them at times in my blog. The same goes for my favourite books. I might even do revies of all the books I read, if that won't bore people to death. :P

So that's pretty much all I wanted to talk about in this introduction-y post. I promise it'll be less boring than this from now on. ;)

TTFN,

Faye
